A Thought Provoking Wellbeing Week
Posted: 22nd January 2020 | Category: Years 1 & 2, Years 3 & 4, Years 5 to 8

There are so many aspects to wellbeing that it is hard either to sum up in an article or to address in five days, but we certainly enjoyed a taste of many different aspects last week and were left with much to think about.
One thing that we hope will have a lasting impact was the introduction of a moment of calm at the start and end of lessons: we intend to build this into more of our lessons in future, as children were certainly more focused after this opportunity to change gear on arrival in class.
As well as emphasising physical health and the importance of eating well and exercising, for example via the sponsored walks, we are all increasingly aware of our mental health and our teachers are looking at ways to support young people in building self-awareness and resilience.
Kate Daniels' workshops are always thought-provoking and the Garden Room provides an invaluable resource, allowing children to step back from the intensity of school life. There were various Garden Room-based activities throughout the week, encouraging children to make ongoing use of this facility.
Finally, positive connections with each other and the wider community are hugely important at Skippers and we were delighted to take our Reception class down to Five Ashes Village Hall, where they read a story and made craft flowers for local residents, who were unanimously charmed! It was a lovely end to a thought-provoking week which we hope will have a lasting impact on our pupils' wellbeing.
