At Skippers Hill, we believe in giving our children a wide exposure to many sports! We are not biased to one discipline in particular but wish to foster a love of games in general, and to participation for fun, good company and personal health!
The boys are split into three age ranges: U9's, U11's and U13's – teachers are allocated according to their particular skills and experience.
In September we start the academic year with football . Training and matches with other schools take place daily. This is replaced in November by Rugby Training with matches in January and February. In March, the boys move onto Hockey, which they have been learning as part of the PE programme.
One of the Year's highpoints is the
annual tour
to Jersey , which sees all our
Year 7 & 8 pupils enjoying a 5 day visit to
the Channel Islands . The Pinnacle of the tour –
if you are male – is being able to represent
England “A” or “B” against
the island's national teams! Donning that white
shirt is an experience few ever aspire to!
The Summer Term is the Cricket Season. After a series of Winter Nets, the practice begins in earnest, as the children try to become professionals asap!
In the second half of the Summer Term, Mr Ian Ritchie, the Head of the National Schools Athletics, runs four Athletic Clubs, ably assisted by the other specialist sporting Staff. Sports Day is competitive but still fun and every member of the School participates in at least two events! We regularly send competitors to the National Tournaments - another magnificent experience for our talented athletes!
Add to that a full P.E. programme to include Dance, Swimming, Stoolball and Cross Country and our lads have a truly great time! |
