Sport in Reception
Sport and friendly competition are a huge part of life at Skippers and the school has met with success at National and County-level in a variety of sports. In addition to this, many of our senior pupils are awarded Sports Scholarships to leading Public Schools. Mrs Daphne Barkworth, our experienced Head of Physical Education, takes the Reception pupils twice a week for timetabled lessons in Games, Gymnastics, Yoga, Music and Movement, Athletics and Swimming on a seasonal rota.
Physical Development is a Prime Area within the EYFS Curriculum and opportunities to develop children’s gross and fine motor skills are maximised on a daily basis, whether it be via our Woodland Explorers activity, Adventure Playground time, frequent Nature Walks or free-flow outdoor play during our daily child initiated sessions.
In addition, Reception pupils are invited to take part in our after-school Music and Movement (Autumn and Spring Terms) and Athletics (Summer Term) clubs, which are included in the fees. Once in Year 1, Tennis becomes available as an optional extra and for an additional charge.
