Key Stage 2 Maths (7-11)
From Years 3 through to 8, the children are taught by specialist Maths teachers who take the stress out of Maths, making it a subject to enjoy. Learning is achieved mainly through teacher-led discussion, followed up by practice, reinforcement and consolidation.

The New Heinemann Maths scheme ensures comprehensive coverage of all Key Stage 2 topics. However, we keep our students stretched by introducing the Key Stage 3 textbook to our ten year olds, helping them to learn the more formal written techniques as early as possible. The aim is to enable the children to use their ability fully, with confidence, accuracy and understanding. They are encouraged to apply their skills using appropriates strategies which may include mental or written skills or the the efficient use of a calculator. Mental arithmetic techniques that underpin so many calculations, are practised and learnt as an integral part of most lessons.

Key Stage 3 Maths (11-13) From the age of 11, a demanding Maths syllabus covering the whole of Level 6 and aspects of Level 7 keeps our pupils focused on their goals. A disciplined and organised approach to their work is fostered in preparation for the Common Entrance and Scholarships examinations.

Differentiation is vital at this stage. Every child's needs are assessed and catered for. This promotes self-confidence and leads to marked progress. From extra tuition for those in need of additional help to a weekly Maths Club for the more able children, various approaches are used to help stimulate the mind and meet every pupil's needs.

The breadth of work covered in the last two years forms an excellent basis for GCSE study and beyond.
