At Key Stage 2 pupils develop enquiry learning and vital geographical skills. They learn the compass points and expand their knowledge of places both in and outside the United Kingdom. Fieldwork is introduced using the school grounds: environmental issues are explored and river processes can be studied by observation of the stream system located in the woods.
In Years 7 and 8 the students follow the ISEB Geography syllabus covering geomorphological processes, hazards, settlements, economic activities, weather and climate to name but a few! All these themes are externally examined, along with Ordnance Survey map skills and Global locational knowledge.
In Year 8 the students' future schools assess a fieldwork project. Recent topics have included: microclimatic features in the school grounds; settlement hierarchies in the local area; and, this year, a study of a stretch of the Eastbourne coastline measuring Longshore Drift and examining the various processes of erosion and deposition |
