Year One celebrate Chinese New Year

Year One have had a fun-filled week learning about Chinese New Year.
They learnt all about China and how people celebrate Chinese New Year.
They enjoyed acting out the Chinese Story,The Great Race and performing it for our Kindergarten children. They loved learning how each new year got to be named after an animal. They learnt that this year was the year of the monkey. They also loved finding out what animal year they were born in.
Year One would like to thank Suzie and Tilly in Year 3 who kindly brought in many chinese artefacts to show and explain to the Year One children. These included chinese puppets, lanterns, fans, red envelopes, outfits and decorations. They also gave them a mini lesson on counting to 10 in mandarin.
Year One were then inspired to make their own chinese lanterns and red envelopes. They will take their red envelopes home this week to place under someone's pillow!
As you will see from our photos, the highlight of the week was our Chopstick Challenge! At lunchtime each Year One and Two child was challenged to eat their noodles with chopsticks. They certainly impressed us with their amazing chopstick skills, with many asking for seconds. Not one of them opted for cutlery instead! Well done Juniors!
