Year 5 learn to perfect the swing

Some of the Year Fives are very excited to have had the chance to sign up for golf lessons at Crowborough Golf Club.
‘We went in the minibus with Mr Hammond to Crowborough Golf Club. When we arrived we met with Dennis who is our coach. He took us to the practice ground and gave us each a club.
He then showed us all the different clubs that he had in his bag. He had a putter, drivers (one was actually made of wood), irons, a sand wedge. We learnt that if you were playing in a competition 12 clubs was the most you could have in your bag. He also had a laser to measure distances and a special watch which told you where the next hole was. He also had lots of golf balls and tees and waterproofs. It was a big bag – we hadn’t realised you needed so much!
He showed us all how to hold the club properly, this was quite difficult as you had to interlock your fingers. We had a go at hitting the ball which was very tricky; some of us kept hitting it in the ditch but Toby and James were masters (but they had played before!).
We needed to know so much and we can’t wait until next week!’
