Year 1 write poems about worms!

Year 1 decided to celebrate National Poetry Day last week by writing some fabulous poems about worms! Inspired by Jack Prelutsky's 'Peter Ate A Worm' we recreated our own versions entitled 'Today I Ate A Worm'. Having collected some interesting words to describe the worms in their poems (squidgy, wriggly, juicy, squirmy and scrummy to name but a few!), the children then explored different poems to enable them to write their own. Our week of worms culminated in a rather exciting 'worm walk'. We set off armed with some washing up liquid, having been reliably informed by Jackie that this, along with some stomping, would bring the worms up to see us. Would you believe it but she was right - great excitement ensued when we managed to coax at least four worms out of hiding.
