What a fantastic performing arts evening on Tuesday this week!

Posted: 25th November 2016 | Category: Headmaster's Blog

What a fantastic performing arts evening on Tuesday this week! Song, verse, acting, piano, drums, flute, clarinet, saxophone, guitar and violin were represented at all levels from beginner to accomplished in nearly fifty performances from children in Years 4 to 8. The gym was packed with parents and supporters which added to a great atmosphere, suitably fuelled by a glass of wine and Wendy’s peerless cheese straws!

I was delighted to see how well-prepared the children were and how courageous; for some they had been learning an instrument for only six weeks and this was their first performance. A great testament to the commitment of the peripatetic teachers, many of whom were on-hand to guide their pupils through their performances. And testament also to the burgeoning ‘growth mindset’ and perseverance of our children, who faced the odd hiccup with equanimity and determination.

I was also thrilled to see the fruits borne of our new Enrichment programme as the Year 5 ‘Glee’ choir closed the evening with ‘Hold back the river’, performed with gusto, great volume and pure pleasure.

A real treat to kickstart this busy season of performances, a time when Mrs Holleyman is generally seen at a distance racing from event to event - a huge thank you for organising such a treat for our community!
