Reception “Meet the Animals” with Skippy the Deer

Posted: 25th September 2013 | Category: Reception

Meet the animals

As part of a Settling into School theme for the Autumn term, our new Reception class and their mascot Skippy the Deer, enjoyed a very special “Meet the Animals” event last week when Impeyan Productions came to visit the school.

Joined by some parents and family members, the children got up close to a wide range of mammals, birds and creepy crawlies, including an owl, fruit bat, armadillo, meerkat, snake, millipede and baby crocodile, to name a few.

Reception pupil Hollie-Mae, said: "I loved it! I liked it best when the owl fluttered its wings and flew over our heads."

The Reception class were also joined by Kindergarten and Year 1 and everyone learnt a bit about each animal and where they came from, as well as having a chance to stroke and handle the animals.

Vincent said: “The crocodile was nice and smooth on its tummy.”

Miss Hemsley said: “Everyone enjoyed a wonderful, engaging afternoon and we will continue the discussions we have had about the animals we have met, to feed into other cross-curricular class activities.”
