If you go down to the woods today you are sure of a big surprise…that is exactly what Kindergarten and Reception found when they went down to the ‘Den’ on Friday. We had been building Elf and Fairy Houses and unbeknown to us the fairies of Skippers Hill had set up home in one of the houses and sprinkled their fairy dust everywhere. Freya was adamant they had also slept in the bed they had made for them. Squeals of delight came from the woods when the discovery was made … so exciting!
We have been using the grounds of Skippers a great deal in our teaching this term; our topic this term is’ The Jungle’ so we have been exploring our own little bit of wilderness and linking this into all areas of our learning. We have found circles, squares, rectangles and triangles outside and we have also found some tracks left by our own rabbits - the language and literacy that has come from our exploration has been inspiring. The most magical part was seeing two deer in the grounds! They looked magnificent and the children just stared in total awe!
Inside the classroom we have made a Jungle Hut and transformed our Wendy House into a Jungle Café, complete with a Jungle Menu including delicacies of Monkey Burger, Tiger Milkshake and Snake Sweeties - yum yum!
Our Christmas show is called ‘Christmas in the Jungle’ and has been so much fun to put together. We have zebras, tigers and monkeys all going Christmas crazy as well as having a few worried Angels and Shepherds getting very lost in the Jungle. It all works out fine in the end and Mary and Joseph do steal the show - there will not be a dry eye in the house.
Pirate Bear has continued to go on the most amazing adventures and we have now made a book of all the things that he has been doing: horse riding is still Number One.
Messy Mondays has been great fun and it has been lovely to meet so many new faces. Messy Mondays has certainly lived up to its name as in the past few weeks we have decorated the classroom with jelly, icing, paint and of course play dough. Great fun has been had by all.
Please do come and see what the Kindergarten is all about. The children would love to show you what we have been up to. Aggie said to me last Thursday “ I don’t want to go home; I am having too much fun”. Now that is what Kindergarten is all about…
