Megan joins the KG team

Posted: 23rd November 2016 | Category: Kindergarten

We are delighted to welcome Megan Ovenden to our Kindergarten team. Her passion and enthusiasm are wonderfully infectious and she is already forming strong bonds with the children.
We would  also like to extend a very warm welcome to Hetty who joined the Skippers family after half-term.  Hetty is settling beautifully and getting to know everyone in Kindergarten.
The Kindergarten children have been so busy since their return to school after half-term and have embraced our Autumn theme wholeheartedly.  We have been scrunching leaves, jumping in piles of leaves, sweeping up leaves, making our own collage leaf suncatchers; we have been on Autumn colour hunts with the aim of matching the beautiful autumnal colours to paint colour cards.  We have been learning about hedgehogs and other animals that hibernate during the cold winter months and we have even made bread hedgehog rolls!  Of course, Bonfire Night was hugely exciting for some of our children and they had so much fun creating their own firework pictures using marbles dropped in paint, a sponge scourer and, not forgetting, vast amounts of glue and glitter!
The benefits of messy play for our young children are enormous and we believe it is important to enable this form of play on a daily basis. It provides opportunities for an array of different mark-making activities; it fosters their imagination in their use of different media and materials; they can explore colour, shape and texture in two and three dimensions and it encourages a positive attitude to new experiences which, in turn, builds their independence through choice.  Hooray for messy play!
As we approach Christmas we have a wealth of fun activities planned and, of course, we are preparing for the PRODUCTION.  Miss it at your peril!
