It’s all going on in Reception Class!
Posted: 20th June 2013
It’s been a busy week so far for Reception Class, with the children engaging in a range of different activities.
The children attended one of their twice-weekly music lessons with Music Teacher, Mrs Holleyman.
In literacy, the children have been practising words ending in ck . Each child had to think of suitable words, and they then had to show Miss Hemsley how to spell each word on the class whiteboard. The children copied the words written on the white board on to their mini white boards and started putting together sentences, using one of the words listed in each sentence.
Pupils were encouraged to extend their learning by adding the –ing suffix to the end of the word.
As part of a carousel of mathematics activities, the children practised recording simple addition and subtraction with the aid of counters and small toys. They have also used analogue clocks to practise telling the time and have created tricky mazes that they then negotiate with the beebot and remote control ladybirds.
As part of the beach topic this term, the children recently created beach-themed objects using clay. The objects created ranged from boats to shells. This week, now that the clay sculptures have dried, the children have enjoyed painting their masterpieces.
