I have been so impressed with how well our pupils have welcomed new joiners since September

Posted: 18th October 2017 | Category: Headmaster's Blog

In assembly this week, I thoroughly enjoyed congratulating all of the children on a fantastic start to the academic year.

I have been so impressed with how well our pupils have welcomed new joiners since September, and how quickly the new children have settled, made friends and shown positivity in their learning.

As we enter our half-term break this week, I am very proud of the efforts of each individual child in the school.

During our recent iAPS District Head’s meeting, several visiting heads commented upon the good manners, winning smiles and engaging conversations that they shared with children that they met in the school. I received a number of compliments on the visible culture and ethos of the school and the children deserve praise for taking on board the messages we give and engaging so readily with the opportunities before them.

I am sure that you will spend time talking to your children about the feedback they have received from their teachers in their interim reports this week. This is a good opportunity to reflect upon the expectations of being in a higher year group, and to set individual targets and aspirations for the term ahead. In order to be successful in their learning, children must learn to accept feedback, celebrate their successes and overcome disappointment. All part of becoming a resilient and reflective pupil - qualities that are evident in the children at Skippers.

Have a safe and happy holiday and I look forward to welcoming you back to the shorter days and darker evenings!

Best wishes,

Mark Hammond.
