Heads down for Years 7&8
Posted: 26th November 2014 | Category: Year 7, Year 8
An innocent one line entry in the planner and the week ahead does nothing to signify the enormity of the assessment process for our Year 7 and 8 pupils. For many it was the first taste of an external examination style paper and probably the first of many on the journey towards GCSE and ‘A’ Levels.
All pupils in both year 7 and 8 spent the week taking ‘mock’ Common Entrance Papers in order to track progress to their terminal examinations in May next year. Year 7 mainly focused on Level One papers, with Year 8 sitting papers related to their ability and as required by their chosen Senior School. As with all assessments, the real point was to identify strengths and weaknesses and therefore to plan for future learning opportunities.
This week has been a week of reflection for students on their performance and the work ahead to gain entry to the number of highly competitive schools that we feed. Year 8 pupils have their sights set on Battle Abbey, Claremont, Hurst, Eastbourne College and Bedes, with a growing number aiming higher for scholarship entry.
Well done to Year 7 and Year 8: the hard work has just begun !
