Years 7 and 8 Camping

Posted: 11th October 2013 | Category: Year 7, Year 8

All eyes were on the weather forecast as we had our second attempt at camping this term. There was palpable excitement as Friday progressed and this was not diminished as everyone pulled out a variety of tents, sleeping bags and of course, vast quantities of sweets.

Mr. Ritchie, in charge of the bonfire, sent everyone in search of firewood which in true military style was duly sorted into kindling, small, medium and large piles. Mr. AB and I got the games under way and everyone threw themselves into the fun. As it got dark it became suitable for a wide game which involved two teams moving around the fields attempting to capture prisoners. Having worked up large appetites, we were all treated to a barbecue courtesy of Mr. Pollard, Mr. Lewis and Mrs. Alsop.

Then there was the bonfire, toasted marshmallows and singing led by Imogen and Lizzie. As people melted away one might think that rest and sleep would be on everyone's mind. It never happens! I think it is an unspoken requirement to stay awake as long as possible.

Saturday saw a group of tired but happy children and my lingering memory will be of Florence, curled up on a groundsheet as a group were taking down a tent around her!
