Years 3 and 4 visit the British Museum bringing History alive.

Posted: 25th January 2016 | Category: Year 3, Year 4

This term the children in Year 3 have been learning about the Ancient Egyptians and  Year 4 have been learning about the Aztecs.  On Friday 22nd January, Year 3 and 4 piled onto a coach and set off to the British Museum in London. We arrived at the museum and after a quick snack Year 3  headed off to the Ancient Egyptian Sculpture Gallery. The children became 'symbol detectives' and were set a challenge of finding different hieroglyphics. They were amazed at how many they could see! They were so inspired that they are now keen to sculpt some hieroglyphics in school! They then visited the galleries linked to Life in Ancient Egypt - luckily no mummies came to life!

Year 4 meanwhile visited the Aztec Room where they were delighted to see many of the artefacts that they had previously only seen in books. They used their detective skills to find out about objects from everyday life , religion, trading and war and made sketches of many of the statues. It was wonderful seeing them so engrossed in their work.

After this we had a well deserved lunch and visited the shop - popular with the children!
The visit enabled the Year 3  children to experience and engage with the unique collections from Ancient Egypt and the Year 4 with the Aztec artifacts. We were very impressed with the inquisitiveness of the children and their fantastic behaviour. They were a real credit to the school and a delight to take on the trip.
