Year One Paint Vincent Van Gogh Sunflowers

Year One Paint Vincent Van Gogh Sunflowers

As part of Year 1’s ‘Plants’ theme, they planted sunflowers and read the beautifully illustrated book ‘Camille and the Sunflowers’, which tells the story of Vincent Van Gogh.  The children then painted their own sunflower pictures. They painted the background for their pictures one day and hung the paintings up to dry.  The next day Miss Bakewell brought in some sunflowers for the children to look at while they painted the vase and sunflowers to complete their paintings.

Continuing with their ‘Plants’ topic, Year 1 has also been looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy, who makes sculptures from natural materials.  The children collected materials such as leaves, flowers, grass, stones and twigs that they found on the land around the school to make similar pieces of art.
