Campfire songs and toasted marshmallows
Posted: 14th September 2016
For once the weather was kind to a Skippers camping expedition! The Year 7s and 8s headed down the field after school and tents soon sprang up by the pavilion; or in one case, struggled gradually up! We managed to gather enough firewood for a towering inferno of a campfire, so after a tasty barbecue courtesy of chef Hammond (who must be owed some sort of barbecuing qualification by now?) everyone threw themselves into marshmallow-toasting and singing some of the loudest chants to be heard at Skippers since, well, since this time last year anyway. For a sample, have a look at the Facebook page where one of the songs was reprised in the morning over breakfast. The children were fabulous fun to be with and their behaviour did them proud (midnight feasts excluded, naturally). It is always a lovely way for the two senior year groups to get to know each other better at the beginning of two really action-packed years and this was no exception. Thank you to Mr Gurran for trying to keep up with the children in Manhunt and Jackie Parker for providing tents, wisdom and rowdy songs. Roll on the rest of the year: if this was anything to go by, it's going to be a good one!
