Year 7 stay in France as part of their Silver Challenge Award

Posted: 28th September 2016 | Category: Year 7, Years 5 to 8

For the first stage of their Silver Challenge Award, the whole of Year 7 gathered their waterproofs and their French phrase books and last Friday morning left Skippers at 6am on an expedition to France.  With the sun shining and barely enough breeze to lift the flags on the seafront, we had to swap our planned sand yachting for beach games and an exploration of the town, ending with local crepes and gaufres.  When we arrived at the hostel, the children were delighted to find it backed onto the dunes and spent the rest of the afternoon on sand sledges (or in some cases, the less adrenaline-fuelled but equally competitive mini-golf).  The market on Saturday morning was a real highlight, with pupils confidently asking for French produce and speaking to locals to carry out their challenges to find out information in French.  Their manners as well as their French did us all proud.  Thank you very much to Mrs Plummer (for bringing the camera), Mr Hammond (for bringing the credit card!) and above all to the children for making this an unforgettable experience in the best possible sense.
