Year 7 & 8 return from annual Jersey Tour

Pupils in Year 7 & 8 enjoyed their annual five-day sports tour to Jersey, last week. The tour saw pupils competing with other UK and Jersey schools in a range of sports, as well as enjoying plenty of free-time activities.

Year 8 pupils Jess, Poppy and Gabby, recount their time on tour:

This year the Jersey Tour was something to remember. It was packed with many exciting moments and everyone had a great laugh.

One of the most fun things was heading off to Aquasplash (a swimming place in St Helier).

We found this particular trip fun because we loved the water slides.

Another memorable moment was visiting Green Island beach. On this beach we spent our time climbing the rocks and crafting Miss B out of sand. The sand creation made everybody laugh and we all enjoyed ourselves.

On the last day we had an exciting trip to the zoo. The many types of animals fascinated us and we were keen to learn more about them.

We all loved Jersey so much that five of the Year 8 girls managed to celebrate by getting stuck in a lift for 20-30 mins. At the time this was scary for them, but now they laugh it off.

Overall Jersey was a brilliant success and it could not have gone better as our last trip.

Year 7 pupils Francesca, Talia and Caris also reported on the Netball Tournament:

Friday was the culmination of the week’s netball for the girls. Each round robin played a practice lead up to the "grand finale". The competition is held at Les Ormes, a very large and well equipped indoor facility. Seven island schools and five visiting schools took part, with the play divided into two leagues made up by random draw.

Our roving reporters Francesca, Talia and Caris were instructed to watch and report. Using their detailed knowledge of the game they filed their report as follows:

Durlston Court v Skippers Hill
We were very evenly matched. We had sharp free passing. We marked tightly with some lovely interceptions. The end score was 8-8.

Jersey College Girls v Skippers Hill
The eventual winners. Most of their players form this age group island team.

Jessy and Lucinda were working well together in the circle. Poppy and Gabby made some brilliant interceptions. This team was very hard to beat and in the end they won the whole tournament. The score was 15-5 to them.

Granville v Skippers Hill
We used the space well. Brilliant sequence passing throughout the court. Jessy was doing brilliant square landings. The end score was 18-7 to us.

Beaulieu v Skippers Hill
At the beginning we looked evenly matched, but by the end it was clearly a win for us. Lizzie was zippy, running around helping. Our passing was long and strong. The end score was 15-8 to us.

Haute Vallee v Skippers Hill
We got off to a smashing start. Captain Jessy shot goal after goal (a total of 18). Our game was almost perfect, taking our free passes and centre passes quickly. The end score was 19-0 to us.

St Michael’s Jersey v Skippers Hill
We played this Jersey team in the semi-finals. It was a nail biting match and at half-time the score was 5 all. We tried hard and so did St Michael’s; the horn blew and the final score was 11-10 to them.

Well done team, joint third is a good outcome.
