Year 6 Triumphs at the Eastbourne Festival

Posted: 21st March 2013

The children in Year 6 put on a wonderful performance in the Mime and Choral Speaking Classes at the Eastbourne Festival Wednesday 13 February.

The adjudicator thought that their “CIRCUS” mime was full of energy and excitement and commented on how well the performers acted as a group. He praised their facial expression and whole-body acting skills.

Next, they went upstairs to the Gold Room and performed two pieces for the Choral Speaking class. A prose piece: “The Moon and the Heavenly Nectar” by Madhur Jaffrey was a difficult task, but the delivery was full of expression and extremely clear.

One point that the adjudicator made was the problematic area of timing in Choral Speaking. He said that the children showed excellent timing – especially in the pauses. This was used particularly well in Michael Rosen’s comic poem “The Car Trip”. It was very funny and we all loved it.

The children worked extremely hard on their performances and we were absolutely thrilled that they were rewarded with two First Places!

Well done, Year 6!

Also worthy of note:

Poppy from Year 7 and her co-performance team from the Deborah Lamb Musical Theatre Society who won the U13’s shield for their dance, ‘Party’, competing against 16 other dance companies from Sussex and Kent.
