Year 6 Go Mad in Dorset!

Posted: 14th June 2016 | Category: Year 6, Years 5 to 8

On Monday 16th May, Year 6 set off, with Mr O’C and Miss Alexander in tow, for four fabulous days in Dorset. This was the first residential trip for a Year 6 class at Skippers and we were heading for Swanage.

The reason we chose south Dorset was because of the exceptional geomorphological features of its coastline, and the wonderful ruins of Corfe Castle - a Norman motte and bailey castle built by William the Conqueror. Both of these topics are studied at Common Entrance so this was a great introduction for the children.

We were made extremely welcome by the super staff at the Swanage Centre and the children spent many happy evening hours swimming; playing sport in the Dome; watching films; playing pool and table tennis . . . Never a dull moment!

During the day we would walk and climb along the Jurassic coast; go kayaking; have picnics; take photographs and make drawings - we even managed to find some fossils.

The children loved the delicious food - a hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner - and wrote their days up in their diary.

The staff complimented us on how well behaved and polite the children (and teachers) were and said they would welcome them back any time.

Well done Year 6 - you were wonderful!
