Year 2’s account of their visit with Year 1 to Crowborough Library

Posted: 26th April 2016 | Category: Year 1, Year 2, Years 1 & 2

This week, Year 1 and Year 2 travelled to Crowborough Library. We were met by Claire, a Librarian.  Claire read us two stories – ‘Dirty Bertie’ and ‘The Witch’s Kitchen’.  They were both really funny and a little bit revolting!  Next, Claire explained how to use the library.  She told us how they arrange the books into categories.  We learned that fiction books are arranged in alphabetical order, using the author’s surname.  Claire then introduced us to the Dewey Decimal System – a way of categorising non-fiction books using numbers.  Next, we learned how to scan books in and out of the library using the special scanning machines.  We learned it is really easy to get a library card and you are allowed to borrow up to 20 books out of the library at once!  Then we had some time to explore the library and read any children’s books that we liked the look of.  Finally, Claire read us a couple more stories.  One of them was ‘The Great Dog Bottom Swop’, which explained why dogs smell each other when they meet – it was hilarious!  We really enjoyed our visit to Crowborough Library and are all looking forward to visiting our local libraries with our families.
