Year 2 Design Their Ideal Rooms

Posted: 22nd June 2012 | Category: Year 2

The children in Year 2 have been enjoying designing their ideal room.   Using a shoe box as the simple model for their rooms, the children spent time discussing and drawing up bird’s eye plans of what their ideal rooms would be like. This planning and discussion was very exciting!

Once they had collected enough shoeboxes, their next task was to reproduce their design in 3D using as much recycled material as possible.  The children produced a wonderful array of very thoughtful, individual and creative work.

They spent a morning setting out all of their model rooms in the classroom and each child described their design to the class.  They explained what they had wanted to achieve, what materials they had used and what difficulties they had experienced. It was wonderful to observe the children taking charge of their work and discussing and answering questions from their peers.

The children have been so inventive and original in their approach. Their work is displayed on the way to the Art Room and has created a lot of discussion, not only in the Juniors but also with the older children who have been overheard discussing how Ela made her lampshade or whether Ptolemy had help with making his drum kit.
