Year 1 visit Bodiam Castle

Posted: 26th April 2016 | Category: Year 1

On Tuesday April the 26th, Year One went to Bodiam Castle. This was to consolidate and extend their learning on Castles from the Spring term.
They attended a workshop to learn more about 'Feasts' during Castle times. They were all given costumes to dress up in and two children were chosen to be the hosts of the feast. The photos show Sir Edward and Lady Elizabeth seated on the top table!
They looked at a range of foods that were laid on the table and discussed whether or not they were foods that we do or don't eat today. These included Swan and Peacock dishes!
They talked about the role of Jesters and Minstrels. The children then entertained Sir Edward and Lady Elizabeth by playing musical instruments from Castle times. They also enjoyed playing Quoits, a game played during Castle Times.
After the workshop they went for a short guided tour around the grounds of the castle and found many of the key features of a castle including the Great Hall, the remains of old fire places, the kitchen and the portcullis.
We finished our trip with a walk around the moat which allowed us to admire the beauty of Bodiam Castle from many angles.
Many thanks to our parent helpers for their support. We hope you enjoy the photos of our lovely day out.
