Year 1 enjoy learning about the history of teddy bears

Posted: 2nd February 2012 | Category: Year 1

Teddy BearAs part of their learning about Toys this term, Year 1 have been looking at the history of the teddy bear, whilst learning about different types of teddies and comparing old teddies with new ones. The children were very excited to be able to bring their own teddies to school for a day and share stories about their bears with their friends.

They all wrote beautifully about their own bears for their “My teddy is…” stories.

The children also used Purple Mash to create their own pictures of teddies which they correctly labelled with eyes, nose, mouth, etc.

As Year 1 continue learning about famous teddies, one of the most famous bears, Paddington Bear, will soon be coming to stay with a different Year 1 pupil and their family each weekend. Children will be encouraged to take pictures and keep a journal to put in Paddington’s case so that they can share the adventures they have had with Paddington with the rest of their class.

…So make sure you’ve got some marmalade for when Paddington comes to visit because it’s his favourite!

Year 1 class would also be very grateful if parents could lend them any very old toys. They promise to take good care of them.
