Year 1 are busy building houses

Posted: 22nd June 2012 | Category: Year 1

Year 1 have been enjoying learning about houses and are on their way to becoming budding architects!  The children have each designed their own house and have carefully considered each detail of their design.  They have selected the number of windows their house will have, what the house will be made from, what colours it will be, and even thought about whether their house will need a TV aerial.  The children carefully filled out checklists to record their choices.

Before building their houses, the children have been busy with a lot of research.  They have looked at how hinges work in preparation to make their front doors, and have been learning how to measure accurately so that their roofs are big enough to keep the rain out and that window panes are the right size for the windows.

The children have now been using their designs to build their houses.  Of course, with all this researching, some design ideas have been changed and developed, and the future architects in the Year One are very pleased with the way their projects are coming along!
