Wesley celebrates in Arizona

Posted: 6th May 2015 | Category: Sports, Year 7

Year 7 pupil Wesley Mason, is celebrating again!
After winning a prestigious Association of British Kart Clubs meeting earlier this month, claiming the title of British Open Karting Champion for the Honda Cadet Class last  weekend Year 7 pupil Wesley Mason raced in the USA for the first two rounds of the Super Karts USA (SKUSA) in Phoenix, Arizona. Racing in a totally different class than he races in the UK, Wesley put in an impressive performance.
During the Friday practice, Wesley was having to adjust to the 100F (37C) heat and learn a new track layout which he took in his stride. However, he had no control over the very temperamental engine he was provided. His practice times on Friday suggested that he would struggle to keep up with the front of the pack. His mechanics and the engine builder worked on his engine through the night with no certainty of what the race weekend would bring. On the Saturday, he put in an impressive performance and came  second in Round One of the SKUSA PRO TOUR! Wesley and his team, Benik Karts, felt confident that Wesley's engine was sorted and he would be the driver to beat on Sunday for Round 2. Unfortunately, on the Sunday his temperamental engine failed him in  qualifying. Starting last after failing to qualify, Wesley gained an amazing 34 places to get to 10th only to be taken out falling to the back once again. He managed to get to 26th for Round Two. Luckily, he is allowed a drop round, so let's hope his engine is sorted before the next rounds in Indiana in July.

Wesley continues to create a fantastic reputation for himself on both sides of the pond.

Here is a link for a portion of the race on Saturday. Wesley is on the front row in second place.
