Kindergarden

By Molly Mills, Kindergarten Leader

The first couple of weeks of the newly opened Kindergarten at Skippers Hill have flown by! It has been a pleasure getting to know the new Kindergarten children and what fun we have had already!

We have not stopped painting, sticking, digging, playing, splashing (lots of splashing due to all the rain), shop keeping and cooking. The children have watched with excitement as each day sees the arrival of more equipment for the Kindergarten. We now have a Wendy House, which has been transformed into the Palace Kitchens, in conjunction with our topic ‘The Diamond Jubilee’, and a boat sandpit that would make any pirate feel at home. Inside the Kindergarten we have our own Palace Shop and we have made our very own castle.

With rain coats and wellies in place, the children have been very interested to learn about the seasons, and the tell tale signs of Spring. One of the pleasures of the environment at Skippers Hill is that it has everything the children need to discover and witness Mother Nature at work. We have even enjoyed a bird’s eye view of the lambs with their mothers and have found the perfect spot to start to build our very own den.

The Kindergarten children went swimming this week and did so well! Mrs Daphne Barkworth, our Games’ Specialist, put all the children at ease and I am in no doubt that by the end of term we will have some mermaids and mermen on our hands!

On a personal note, thank you to all staff and parents for a warm welcome and making me feel very much part of the Skipper’s team already.

If you haven’t had a chance to visit the new Kindergarten at Skippers Hill, please feel free to pop in and see us at work and play, and also don’t hesitate to extend the offer to interested friends with young families.

I will be keeping you all updated on our events and progress, but for now I’ll leave it to Mia – age four - to sum up her time in the Kindergarten: “It is fun, fun, fun!”.
