U9 Netballers play with determination and energy

Posted: 22nd March 2016 | Category: Sports, Year 3, Year 4

What a thrilling way for our valiant U9 Netball team to end the season. We entered  into the B section of this tournament as the small  school of 12 much  larger Kent schools. We had five matches in our section and the girls were hoping to achieve a few wins. The target for the day was to play with determination and energy in every match no matter the outcome!

The girls succeeded in this task giving 100% effort and enthusiasm all afternoon. The scores of our first 4 matches were amazing with not a goal conceded, so strong was our defending by Ivy, Martha L, Ellie G and Madison! 4-0, 3-0, 6-0 and 4-0 respectively against Kent College, Sevenoaks Prep, St Michaels and Rose Hill. Next we needed to beat  Derwent Lodge to become group winners but although we had the most possession of the ball we just couldn't quite get the goals this time and they just pipped us by 2 goals to 1. Never mind, we were still in the semi-final and had to play the winner of the other group. In a fearsome contest, 14 tired girls in both teams battled their way for victory. At 2 goals all the whistle blew but we had to continue after time for a golden goal which St Michaels got to first! Rather annoyingly  they  then became the  winners of this fantastic tournament but that is the nature of sport and Skippers Hill should be so proud to have been up there playing such strong Netball against the winning team.

Our attacking players must be mentioned too, Martha H with her total determination and superb shooting, Tilly who knows exactly how to find her space as WA, Evelyn taking control of centre pass tactics and  Mia an U8 who worked brilliantly in the shooting circle to make us so effective. Player of the tournament goes to Ivy who intercepted nearly every pass into the opposition circle! Thank you also to the parents for all your support!

Very impressive U9's, I was very proud of you!   Mrs Convert
