Special ‘Animal Encounters’ Event Planned for Reception Children

Posted: 14th June 2013 | Category: EYFS, Reception Initiatives

As part of our Settling in to School theme for the Autumn term, the children starting in our Reception class in September will have the opportunity to meet some exciting animals up close.  Reception Teacher, Louise Hemsley and Teaching Assistant, Jackie Parker, have organised a very special ‘Animal Encounters’ event.

Impeyan Productions, a company who describe themselves as “the zoo that comes to you”, specialise in running natural demonstrations in schools and will be bringing along a wide variety of different creatures for the children to touch and hold, including a chameleon, Siberian fox, meerkat, snake, anteater and baby crocodile, to name a few.

Parents and carers will be invited to join the children for this special event, which is taking place on Friday 20th September at 2pm and they too will have the opportunity to hold the animals... if they are brave enough!

Miss Hemsley explains, “I heard from my counterpart at Wandsworth Prep, one of the schools within our group, that their Reception pupils had gained a tremendous amount from a visit from Impeyan last year and we are thrilled to be able to offer our Skippers pupils this special experience too. This is designed to be a fun and engaging event to gently ease the children into school life and trigger enthusiastic discussion and participation in our subsequent cross-curricular class activities.”
