Skippers staff benefit from group-wide meetings

Posted: 6th March 2014

Staff from Skippers Hill have enjoyed participating in Cluster Meetings this term, with other UK schools within the Bellevue Education group.

Group meetings have already taken place for Curriculum Leaders, Heads of Early Years, Heads of Pastoral Care and English and Mathematics Co-ordinators, helping staff at each of Bellevue Education’s nine UK schools to share best practice in specific elements of teaching and learning.

David Pollard, Mathematics Co-ordinator at Skippers Hill, said: “We often teach in subject isolation in the independent sector, so the opportunity to come together with fellow professionals, working in similar environments, is a real benefit of being part of the Bellevue Education group of schools.”

“The Maths Co-ordinators’ session gave an insight into the challenges that we all face, with a chance to discuss solutions and to share best practice. We worked hard as a group to be able to take new ideas back to our own classrooms and to help inform the teaching of our colleagues.”

Group meetings will continue throughout the year, allowing Heads of Departments, Subject Leaders and School Office staff to maintain regular contact with one another and to discuss new teaching frameworks and assessment practices, and to share resources.

Laura Collinson, Bellevue Education’s Curriculum Co-ordinator, said “I am really excited that these meetings are up and running and the response has been very positive and encouraging. The purpose of the meetings is to develop networks between schools, allowing for improvement of different areas of provision. It has been a pleasure to have taken part in these meetings to see how positive, productive and beneficial the discussions have been.”
