Skippers Raises Money for Chosen Charity: Children’s Respite Trust

Posted: 14th February 2014

Gavin Fisher came to Skippers this week to talk to the children about the work of the 'Children's Respite Trust', our chosen local charity for this year.  Members of The Charity Committee presented Gavin with a cheque for £330, which we had raised for the charity at our Christmas carol concert.

In his talk, Gavin spoke about some local children who have severe disabilities and also explained how the spine protects the spinal cord and showed a model which helped the children understand how things can go wrong.  The money which has been raised will go towards giving the children and parents support at a specialised centre and providing nurses to give respite to the parents.

Pupils who answered Gavin's questions well were rewarded with small teddies wearing Trust T-shirts and were much sought after.

Some Year 5 children have been inspired to raise more money for this charity in their proposed cake sale.
