Skippers’ Mathematicians Add Up to a Good Team

Posted: 11th October 2013

Four pupils from Year 5 were chosen to represent Skippers last Thursday, at a Mathematics Challenge organised for this year group by St. Andrews Prep School in Eastbourne.

Eve, Matilda, Saskia and  Lucy spent the afternoon competing against 20 other prep schools in the area.  The team did us proud, beating many teams chosen from much larger schools!

The pupils worked in pairs, under time pressures, on a number of puzzles and mathematical  tasks which were, as the name suggests, ‘challenging’... especially for their French teacher, who was looking on!

It was good to watch the pupils getting so involved in the various puzzles and at the end they were rewarded with very impressive certificates, as well as drinks and marshmallows. A most enjoyable afternoon was had by all!
