Skippers Hill Celebrates Kindergarten Grand Opening

Posted: 13th November 2012 | Category: EYFS, Kindergarten

On Friday 21st September, Skippers Hill celebrated the official opening of its Kindergarten with a fantastic ceremony.  It was a delight to welcome former teacher at the school, Mary Pennington, as a special guest.  Mary, cut the ribbon to pronounce the Kindergarten officially open and was presented with flowers by one of her former pupils, Adam Cro.  It was wonderful to hear Mary’s tales of how Skippers has how changed and also how much the Skippers family spirit has continued throughout the years.

The new kindergarten opened its doors in April, in the purpose built Early Years building. Kindergarten leader, Molly Mills, is delighted to be part of the endeavour.

“It is a great honour to be able to take the Kindergarten at Skippers on a new and exciting learning journey. The Early Years Foundation Stage gives each child the building blocks to build a firm foundation in which to start their education. I am a great believer that Skippers gives each child the unique opportunity to give them the confidence to grow and develop in all areas and this in turn gives them self belief in who they are. Once they join the Kindergarten the transition into Reception is seamless and this continues throughout the school. The surroundings at Skippers are stunning and the children have every opportunity to utilise these - den building, pirate camping etc is all part of everyday school life. The family  ethos of the school is apparent and this makes it a very happy and fulfilling place to work."

Children from the Kindergarten joined the Junior School Choir to entertain guests with their wonderful performance of pirate-themed songs.

The mass balloon release concluded the formalities.  Headteacher, Tim Lewis, found it to be a fitting finish.

“The launching of 160 balloons for each of our wonderful pupils was a great finale to our celebrations.  I am delighted that our Kindergarten is up and running - seeing the children so happy in their stimulating setting is so gratifying.  Smiling staff and beaming children learning through discovery....marvellous!"

As the celebrations concluded, visitors were invited to take a tour of the new kindergarten. Each guest was presented with a cupcake and goody bag as they left.
