Reception visit Scotney Estate

Posted: 15th May 2014 | Category: Reception

On 12th May, Reception visited Scotney Estate in Lamberhurst.

Starting in the rooms of the Victorian Manor House, the children looked at the paintings and decorations, and counted the number of place settings around the large dining table.

Outside, they explored the ruins on the lake and discovered the quarry and its ‘magical stairs’. A look at the ice house also allowed them to find out how people kept things cool, before fridges were invented.

The children were impressed by the walled gardens and a 3D sculpture, and even came across an ancient pathway.

The visit aimed to develop each child's cultural understanding and sense of their place in history, as part of the Understanding the World area of the Early Years curriculum. The children's explorations of the grounds also contributed to developing their understanding of the natural world and proved a valuable contribution to our Woodland Explorers programme.

Reception had a wonderful day.
