On the last Tuesday of term, Skippers Hill held their first Performing Arts Concert.  The evening exhibited the diverse talents of the pupils at the school and was a resounding success.

Peripatetic staff nominated children to perform and the evening saw a variety of contributions: piano solos, violin, woodwind, brass, singing, keyboard, and drums; these were complemented by  Verse Speaking,  Mime, Improvisation,  Acting and a number of Dance items.

The evening began with the Intermediate Choir performing their successful festival number “Soldier, Soldier”.  This was followed by students reciting the Verse Speaking pieces which they had performed for their recent Lamda exams.  Students also performed a number of challenging pieces from their Piano Grade exams.

Dobbin, the pantomime horse, made a rapturous entrance and starred alongside Caris, Verity and Jess  in an extract  from “Wind in the Willows”.

This was followed by an excellent rendition of “Remvera Waltz” on keyboard by Oscar.

Talitha changed the mood with an entertaining Mime, followed by a haunting flute solo from Alana and a well-executed violin piece by Talitha. Acting duo, Issy and Amelia, then took the stage and the audience really appreciated Year 6’s performance of their mime, “The Living Library”.

Jay gave a brilliant drum solo  and was then joined a beautiful chorus line of Year 7 and 8 girls in a swinging rendition of “Chattanooga  Choo  Choo”.

The second half commenced with the Senior Choir singing “Lovely Moon”. Thereafter a prepared improvisation, more piano solos, an excellent Brass Ensemble and numerous acting scenes drew much applause from an attentive audience..

Francesca and Sarah performed a charming piece from their recent Ballet exam and Grade 5 Phoebe treated us all to a captivating dance solo.

Alana and Gabby performed a short acting piece before Annabelle, Fleur and Alana sang three individual numbers.

The evening ended with the Year 6 Choral Speaking.  It was the same performance for which they were recently awarded 88 marks in the recent Eastbourne Festival.

All the students should be very proud of themselves, performing to an audience of over 100 people.  It was a great success and everyone is now looking forward to the next Skippers Hill Performing Arts’ Concert which will be held on the 21st June and will give many more students the opportunity to perform.
