“More in common”: Skippers in the local community

Posted: 28th June 2017

The Great Get Together, which happened across the country last weekend, was inspired by the life of Jo Cox, who dedicated her career to helping individuals and bringing communities together.  Her much-quoted maiden speech in the House of Commons stated that "we are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us".

With this inspiration, Skippers and MAYFACS came together to organise a picnic at Five Ashes Village Hall for our senior pupils, Reception and residents of the local community.

We enjoyed a gorgeous sunny day, ate delicious food and cakes and met some new people, which is what it was all about.  I had a number of comments, particularly from elderly people, about how lovely it was to come and see the children all play together, the older ones looking after the youngest and all having a great time.

I was very proud of our children and pleased that they could give enjoyment to others by their cheerfulness and kindness.  We hope that next year's Get Together will be even bigger and better!
