Plants

A few weeks have passed since my last blog so I was very keen to give you an update on how the Kindergarten was going. We have had such a busy time! The Jubilee Breakfast was a great success. The activities were a hit, especially the cake decorating –I am still finding hundreds and thousands around the classroom even now! Thank you so much to all those we supported it and we are looking forward to the Teddy Bears Picnic on the 27th June too.

We have continued to explore the grounds of Skippers Hill and we have managed to find an area in the woods that is perfect for continuing our learning adventure. Here we have found fairy rings, story circles and so many mini beasts. We have also been planting fruit and vegetables in our grow bags outside the classroom. It has been so exciting to watch the strawberries start to grow. As part of our topic ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ we have planted our own beans and we are hoping they will climb the walls of the classroom very soon. We also have an actual ‘Giant’ in the classroom that the children have drawn and we are starting to make our own beanstalk.

The swimming lessons have been a wonderful way in which to build the confidence of the children. I feel incredibly proud of what they have achieved whilst in the pool but they have also managed to learn to dress and undress independently, quite a feat when some are only three years old.

Next term on every Monday afternoon between 2.15pm and 3.15pm Sue and I are going to be running a toddler group called ‘Messy Mondays’. This gives parents in the local community the opportunity to come into the Kindergarten with their children to partake in some fun activities. There will be lots of paint, glue and playdough but luckily for the parents no clearing up! Please do spread the word to any friends with young children and please do come along - all ages welcome!

On 21st September there will be a grand opening of the Kindergarten. There will be special guests, balloons, singing and, of course, lots of cake. Please make a note of this date in your diary.

The most important part of my job is the children. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the children that I have in the Kindergarten. They are a very special lot. Ted, Sarah and Freya will be moving onto Reception in September and I am so looking forward to watching them progress through Skippers. I also wish Mia every success at her new school. I am equally excited about keeping my pre-school children with me in September and welcoming in the new children to Kindergarten.

In woods

Even though I have only been at Skippers a short while, I am beginning to feel very much part of the team. The family ethos of the school makes it a very unique place to be. I will keep you updated on all the news from the Kindergarten and I look forward to seeing some of you at our events.
