Meet Karen Wright KS2/3 English

Posted: 13th June 2017

What attracted you to the role at Skippers?

Skippers' superb standard of achievement, pastoral care and beautiful rural setting all attracted me to the role. In particular, the emphasis on cherishing individuality and the nurturing family environment felt very welcoming. Regarding the teaching of English at Skippers, I am very much looking forward to the opportunity to focus my teaching within the Key Stage 2/3 age range, where I feel most able to use my creativity and enthusiasm to inspire students.

What skills and experience can you bring to Skippers?

Having taught at local selective secondary girls' and boys' grammar schools, I believe my success at ensuring my students gain the confidence, knowledge and skills necessary to pass their examinations at a level above expectations will transfer to the teaching of Common Entrance. I have been involved in numerous extra curricular activities such as creative writing and reading clubs, both of which I would love to support or offer to students at Skippers to enrich their experience of English.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

After working in the media industry for a decade after I graduated, I decided to become a teacher as I longed to work with children and share with them my lifelong appreciation of English Literature.

What’s the best thing about being a teacher?

The best thing about being a teacher is the wonderful rapport one builds with students. I love getting to know my students and finding the right approaches to inspire and enthuse them. It is such a privilege to have a role in helping children find new passions and interests.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

In my spare time, I relax by reading and watching current films or theatre productions. At weekends, I enjoy bike rides with my partner, James and daughter, Grace, who is twelve years old.  During the holidays, we like to take short city breaks or a ski trip during the winter months.
