Matthew Minister to teach Year 4 and Games

Posted: 28th June 2016 | Category: Year 4

What attracted you to the role at Skippers Hill?
The moment I saw the job description, I knew that it was the balance of job roles that I wanted for the next step in my career and the more research I did, the more it was clear that it was the environment I wanted to work in. It has a great reputation, fantastic grounds and it offered me the opportunity to move back to a part of the country that I miss.

What skills and experience do you bring to the school?
Although these are early days in my formal teaching career, I have been fortunate to experience working within a range of educational settings in both classroom teaching and teaching PE and coaching sport. I look forward to supporting the sports department and enhancing the extra curricular coaching, as well as creating a classroom environment to encourage curiosity and confidence.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?
The two main reasons are; my family and the opportunities I was offered in my own education. The encouragement I received both at home and in education allowed me to develop so much, and I hope to be able to offer the same advice and opportunities that I received.

What’s the best thing about being a teacher?
Learning something new everyday and no two days or lessons being the same! I know I shouldn't admit this before even starting, and it may come as a shock to people that know me, but I don't know everything, I am just very good at appearing to. Children ask questions that you don't expect, and having to be constantly on your toes for the next question to appear out of left field is a challenge that I love. As well as this, and I know it is very cliche, but you get such satisfaction when a child that you have seen struggle with something, suddenly gets it and everything falls into place.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy playing hockey, eating food (especially Italian), cooking anything and everything, reading a good book, watching films and I cannot wait to be back near the south coast and enjoy the beach again. I wish I had something more exciting to add to this answer!
