Lower School enjoy a bird-themed Fun Day

Posted: 4th July 2014 | Category: EYFS, Kindergarten, Reception, Year 1

On Thursday 3rd July, as part of the FOSHA Fun Day, all children in Kindergarten, Reception and Year 1 enjoyed a range of bird-themed activities.

In the morning we played a game of Bird Bingo in the woods, matching hidden cards with our tick sheets and finding out fun facts about birds.

Next, everyone enjoyed a special visit from East Sussex Falconry and four beautiful birds.

We took turns to stroke Halo the Barn Owl and also met a Long-Eared Owl named Bramble. We also met a Hawk and enjoyed watching him fly over our heads.

Finally we met one of the fastest birds on the planet - a Falcon. We learnt how Falcons have different shaped wings to other birds, allowing them to fly particularly fast.

After a picnic on the lawn, we spent the afternoon painting mini bird boxes to take home.

We then watched Gary the Caretaker putting up a real owl box in one of the trees in the woods. We are looking forward to monitoring “The Owl Hotel” to see who moves in!
