Juniors make excellent progress in their reading

Posted: 10th July 2013 | Category: Year 1, Year 2, Years 1 & 2

The end of term reading results in Year 1 & 2 have been outstanding with many children having attained a reading age above that of their own; some have increased their reading age by over a year in just one term! Some have even leapt two years!

This term we trialled teaching Phonics according to ability in groups of no more than 10 children. This will continue in September. This extra daily focus on early phonics will no doubt raise our fantastic results even further!

From September we are also very excited to announce that we will be using a new phonics reading scheme called PHONICS BUG. This has already proved to be very successful in one of our other Bellevue schools.

We look forward to introducing Bug Club to parents at our reading presentation at the beginning of next term.

During the Summer break we encourage parents to continue their child's reading. Local libraries are a great resource and their advertised story times provide a great way to instil a love of reading from an early age.
