IXL takes Skippers by storm

Posted: 1st March 2012

IXL, the mathematics practice programme, has certainly been a hit with children at Skippers Hill Manor Prep School with over 520 hours spent completing an astounding 92,778 questions practising their mathematics in addition to lesson time.

The internet-based programme, which is directly aligned to the National Curriculum, allows children to consolidate their skills in a fun and engaging way: be it at home, on the beach or, in fact, anywhere that there is an internet link.

The system tracks progress and gives rewards, with regular updates being automatically sent to parents, reporting on pupil progress, as the programme adjusts to challenge and encourages regular participation.

David Pollard, Head of Mathematics, said: “I am delighted to have been able to introduce a programme that can be used by all pupils of whatever level and commend the children for embracing it into their learning. I believe using technology to tap into formats with which children feel comfortable balances ideally with more traditional methods. The reports that are provided by IXL for the teaching staff are invaluable in supporting future development.”

IXL is not designed to replace the traditional values of teaching and learning at Skippers, but to add value to the experience using the power of the internet and the newly enhanced IT facilities available at the school.
