Introducing Phonics Bug for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Posted: 30th September 2013 | Category: Reception, Reception Initiatives, Year 1, Year 2

This term Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are using a new phonics programme called Phonics Bug. It is a fresh and modern reading programme that will further help Skippers Hill children to develop all their core decoding skills. This, in turn, will hopefully set all pupils on the path to a lifelong love of reading.

Phonics Bug is based on the principles of synthetic phonics. The scheme engages the children by using a multi-sensory approach to phonic development. Children at Skippers are already enjoying the new, fully decodable and electronic resources.

The books are filled with appealing illustrations and cover both fiction and non-fiction. The start of each book provides guidance for the adult hearing the child read, and there are also suggested follow-up activities at the end of each book. It certainly has made phonics even more fun to teach and learn and we are very excited about the effect Phonics Bug will have on our current excellent levels.
