On a (surprisingly) sunny Friday afternoon all Junior and Senior boys, along with some particularly talented girls walked down to the astro-turf pitch to partake in the 2015 House Football Competition.
The competition was split into three age groups: U9, U11 and U13. The U9 and U11 teams played first and were managed and refereed by the Year 8 boys, who did a fantastic job of organising and managing each team and game. Each House played well and each match was nail-bitingly close.
In the U9 tournament both Drake and Churchill finished with equal points at the top of the table, with one win and one draw apiece. However Churchill, who had put in a convincing 3-0 performance against Livingstone, won on goal difference.
The U11 tournament also proved to be a close thing. However, Churchill again stole the show, this time with a win against Drake and a draw against Livingstone.
At this point Churchill were leading with 10 points and 7 goals, Drake were nipping at their heals with 9 points and 5 goals, and Livingstone were well behind with 5 points and 3 goals. With the scores so close between Churchill and Drake, each U13 team still had everything to play for.
Drake again beat Livingstone with the same score line as the U9s and U11s (2-1), securing their place in the top two. As Churchill stepped up to play their last two matches they knew they had to win both to be sure of winning the House Cup. After a tense game that ended in a 1-0 victory over Livingstone, Drake and Churchill faced off for what was effectively the 1st/ 2nd place play off. Churchill dominated possession and were ruthless in attack - the final score 3-0 to Churchill!
So congratualtions to Churchill who are the 2015 Football House Champions"
It was a fantastic way to finish off a very successful season for the U9, U11 and U13 football teams. The Year 8s are to be commended for managing each team very well whilst on and off the pitch, showing good leadership skills and an excellent understanding of the game. We can now look forward to the rugby, and then hockey, House and inter-school matches over the next term.
