Chloe Blantern to teach Y1

Posted: 28th June 2016 | Category: Year 1

What attracted you to the role at Skippers Hill?
Working and living in the area I was already aware of Skippers Hill, and speaking to friends with children in the school only reinforced my early views that it is a warm, nurturing environment where so much emphasis is placed on the importance of developing the individuality of every child. I am really looking forward to joining the Skippers Hill team.

What skills and experience do you bring to the school?
I have worked across a variety of year groups, in both the maintained and independent sector, and have a secure knowledge of the national curriculum and assessment requirements. However I also passionately believe that children’s learning should be enriched with opportunities to learn outside of the classroom and outside of the curriculum. I have been a leader of various subjects, including PE and English and I have run art and sports based after school clubs.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?
In my final year of school I spent a week helping in our local village school which I loved, so teaching had always been at the back of my mind. I went on to study law at university but once I had completed my degree I knew I didn’t want to pursue it as a career. I returned to university and undertook my PGCE and never looked back!

What’s the best thing about being a teacher?
That no day is ever the same! The wonderful thing about teaching children of this age is their enthusiasm and interest in everything, however weird or wonderful. It is such a pleasure to guide them through these early stages of their school career and be a part of their ongoing development, and it’s a lot of fun!

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I have two young children who keep me busy so we love to spend time as a family getting out and about or seeing friends with similar aged children. On a personal level I’m really interested in health and nutrition so I enjoy exploring different styles of exercise and trying out new recipes.
