Early Years at Skippers Hill
Our Early Years department at Skippers Hill is housed in our purpose-built Early Years building and comprises Kindergarten (2 to 4 years) and Reception (4 to 5 years).
Children in our care feel happy, secure and valued and enjoy a nurturing and stimulating learning experience, involving a combination of teacher-directed and child-initiated activities, which introduce them gently to school life, establishing solid foundations and encouraging their confidence to learn through exploration.
Mrs Sue Reis, our Kindergarten leader, and Mrs Loraine Pincott, our Reception teacher, are both assisted by enthusiastic and dedicated teaching assistants. Our small class sizes and high staff to pupil ratios ensure that the unique and natural talents of every child are recognised and encouraged from the moment they start at Skippers. Regular parent consultations, individual learning journals and our open door policy ensure that parents are provided with continual updates on their child’s progress.
Learning is regularly taken out of doors and our Woodland Explorers programme enables children in Kindergarten and Reception to engage in regular activities designed to help develop an appreciation of natural and living things.
Joint activities with children in Years 1 and 2, weekly whole school assemblies and regular events also help ensure a seamless transition from Early Years through to Key Stage 1.
