Adam Cro

I started my education at Skippers when I was 2 years old in Kindergarten in 1994.  I recently saw my Kindergarten teacher, Mary Pennington, again at the re-opening of the new Kindergarten.   During my time at Skippers I made some amazing friendships; some that have carried on while at secondary school.   I thoroughly enjoyed my sport and made every effort to be involved in as much sport as possible. My biggest sporting success while at Skippers was getting through to the National Athletics Championship held in Birmingham in my final year for shot-put.

I finished at Skippers in 2005 after completing my Common-Entrance exams to go Brighton College, where I had been awarded a Design Technology Scholarship.  The course brought together my love of model engineering and general model making.   My teachers at Skippers had always encouraged me to pursue this interest, and I particularly enjoyed Mr. Ritchie’s after school ‘Model Club’ which ran every Wednesday.

I spent 5 years at Brighton and when I finished I went on a trip to Sri Lanka for 2 weeks with a charity called Extra Cover, which Skippers had raised money for, for several years when I was at school there.  During this visit I worked in schools helping children speak English, playing sport and doing DIY type jobs in their schools to improve the schools’ facilities. I was lucky enough to spend some of my last days working in a school that Skippers Hill had raised money for. Some of this money went towards painting a mural on the front wall of their main class room and updating a second classroom for a computer.

I am currently studying Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Brunel University and I am also a keen hockey player.  I am Club Captain of Brunel University’s Men’s Hockey Club and also play for our 1st team in Goal.  I have been captaining our mixed team successfully for the last 2 years.   When home from University, I play for either Crowborough or Worthing Hockey Club’s men’s 1st teams.  I initially got into hockey at Skippers with Mr Ritchie as our coach. Whilst at Brighton College, I also developed an interest in rugby and played for our 1st team through till 6th form.

They always say your school days are the best days of your life and that couldn’t be truer when you go to a school as brilliant as Skippers Hill. Right from the very beginning, it felt as if there was never a dull day, with something new waiting round every corner. The friendly staff makes it feel like one big family.  That is how I will always remember it, and even now I am always welcomed back with open arms every time I return.

*Adam returned to Skippers Hill last weekend for the Skippers Hill Christmas Fayre, when he brought with him a miniature railway.
